Pirates Tickets 32.5% Below Season Average For Series vs Mets

The Pittsburgh Pirates host the New York Mets for four upcoming games at PNC Park this weekend. The Pirates schedule has the two teams meeting this weekend for the second and last series of the regular season. The Mets schedule has the team visiting PNC Park for just the first and only time this season over the weekend. While both teams have had their struggles this season, they both find themselves in the thick of the playoff hunt through the first 75+ games. The Pirates have played .500 ball at 39-39 and are eight games out of first place in the N.L. Central while the Mets, despite their 36-42 record, trail the first place Nationals by just 5.5 games. The series begins tonight and three of the four games will see an average price for Pirates tickets that is well below the season average of $65.53 on the secondary market. The series as a whole will be 32.5% below the season average in Pittsburgh.

6/26 – Daisuke Matsuzaka vs Vance Worley | Avg. Price: $27 | Get-in Price: $5

The series begins Thursday night when the Pirates give Vance Worley the nod and Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka takes the mound for the Mets. The average price for Thursday Pirates vs Mets tickets is just $27, the lowest of the series at 58.67% below season average, with a get-in price of $5, also the lowest of the series. Worley has started in just two games this season, posting a 1-0 record and 1.98 ERA over 13.2 innings. Matsuzaka has been consistent for the Mets as he’s gone 3-1 with a 2.68 ERA in five starts and 17 relief appearances this season.

6/27 – Jacob deGrom vs Brandon Cumpton | Avg. Price: $38 | Get-in Price: $7

The second game of the series will be played Friday and will feature the Pirates’ Brandon Cumpton against Mets rookie Jacob deGrom. The average price for Friday night Pirates vs Mets tickets is $38, 41.8% below season average, with a get-in price of $7. Cumpton is 3-2 with a 4.93 ERA this season while DeGrom has had trouble receiving offense from his team, going just 1-4 despite a reasonable 3.75 ERA. The Pirates will also be giving a free T-shirt to the first 25,000 fans in attendance.

6/28 – Jon Niese vs Gerrit Cole | Avg. Price: $76.15 | Get-in Price: $22

The third game of the series is the most expensive game largely due to the Andrew McCutchen bobblehead being offered to the first 25,000 fans. The average price for this game is $76.15, 16.56% above season average, with a get-in price of $22. Gerrit Cole will make his first start since coming off the disabled list against Mets lefty Jon Niese. Cole is 6-3 with a 3.64 ERA while Niese has gone 4-4 with a 2.78 ERA.

6/29 – Bartolo Colon vs TBA | Avg. Price: $36 | Get-in Price: $6

The final game of the series will be played Sunday afternoon and will see Mets veteran journeyman Bartolo Colon against a pitcher yet to be named by the Pirates. Average price for Sunday Pirates vs Mets tickets is $36, 44.9% below season average, with a get-in price of $6. The 41-year-old Colon has had an impressive first half, going 8-5 with a 3.67 ERA.
