The Pittsburgh Pirates travel to Sarasota on Sunday to play the Baltimore Orioles

Teams: Pittsburgh Pirates (2-0) at Baltimore Orioles (1-1)
Time: 1:05 PM
Place: Ed Smith Stadium, Sarasota, Florida.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will play game three of their Grapefruit League season on Sunday afternoon. At 1:05 PM, the Bucs and Baltimore Orioles will do battle from Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota.

This comes a day after the Pirates swept a pair of games to open Grapefruit League play on Saturday. Using split squads, the Pirates picked up a 6-2 victory over the Orioles in Bradenton and a 7-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Port Charlotte.

Jameson Taillon will make his spring debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon. Taillon is coming off a fantastic rookie campaign in which he posted a 3.38 ERA, 3.71 FIP, 3.43 xFIP, and a 1.7 WAR in 104 innings pitched (18 starts).

Today’s Pirate lineup will be as follows:

  1. Phil Gosselin – 2B
  2. Kevin Newman – DH
  3. Andrew McCutchen – RF
  4. Jason Rogers – 3B
  5. Elias Diaz – C
  6. Jose Osuna – 1B
  7. Eric Wood – LF
  8. Austin Meadows – CF
  9. Alen Hanson – SS

Tyler Glasnow, Drew Hutchison, Jared Hughes, and Tyler Webb are all slated to pitch today as well. Glasnow and Hutchison are both competing with Steven Brault to become the team’s fifth starting pitcher.

Originally, Adam Frazier was set to play third base and bat lead off. Additionally, David Freese was slated to play first base. Both players have been scratched, however. Frazier was scratched due to left thumb discomfort, while Freese is a healthy scratch.

Andrew McCutchen will be making his second start in right field. He had an uneventful day in right field yesterday, and that is not a bad thing. Both of the Pirates’ top hitting prospects, Kevin Newman and Austin Meadows, will be in the lineup today as well.

Alen Hanson will make his first start at shortstop since he was at Double-A in 2014. This is very important for Hanson. If he is going to make the team out of Spring Training, he has to show the Pirates he is capable of playing shortstop. Today is his first opportunity to do that.

The Orioles will send left-handed pitcher Wade Miley to the mound for his first start of the spring. Their lineup will be as follows:

  1. Hyun Soo Kim – LF
  2. Adam Jones – CF
  3. Manny Machado – SS
  4. Chris Davis – 1B
  5. Mark Trumbo – DH
  6. Seth Smith – RF
  7. Jonathan Schoop – 2B
  8. Welington Castillo – C
  9. Ryan Flaherty – 3B

Next: Gerrit Cole Tabbed Opening Day Starter

First pitch from Wade Miley to Phil Gosselin will be at 1:05 PM. You can listen to the game on the Pittsburgh Pirates’ flagship station 93.7 The Fan this afternoon.

Next up for the Pirates is a trip Dunedin to play the Blue Jays on Monday afternoon. The Pirates will start Chad Kuhl, and he will be followed by Wade LeBlanc, Nick Kingham, and Clay Holmes.
