The Pittsburgh Pirates will play their 15th game of their Grapefruit League season on Saturday

This afternoon, the Pittsburgh Pirates travel to Sarasota, Florida, to play the Baltimore Orioles. This will be the Pirates’ 15th Grapefruit League game this spring. So far, the Pirates are 11-3.

Today’s game will be the third between the Pirates and Orioles this spring. The Pirates were victorious in each of the first two meetings. This afternoon’s game will be a radio only game, and can be listened to on the Pittsburgh Pirates’ flagship station 93.7 FM The Fan.

For the Pirates, right-handed pitcher Clay Holmes will make the start. Holmes is working his way back from Tommy John Surgery and has been impressive thus far this spring. Holmes has allowed three hits, he has walked one batter, and he has struck out eight in four scoreless innings pitched this spring.

Another pitcher working his way back from Tommy John, Nick Kingham, is scheduled to follow Holmes. While both Holmes and Kingham will start the year at Triple-A Indianapolis both could see time in the Major Leagues this season. In fact, it would be a surprise if Nick Kingham does not make his Major League debut at some point in 2017.

Jared Hughes, Antonio Bastardo, Josh Lindblom, and Dan Runzler are all scheduled to pitch for the Pirates as well. The starting lineup for the Pirates this afternoon is as follows:

  1. Adam Frazier – 2B
  2. Alen Hanson – SS
  3. Phil Gosselin – 1B
  4. Josh Bell – DH
  5. Elias Diaz – C
  6. Austin Meadows – CF
  7. Danny Ortiz – LF
  8. Eury Perez – RF
  9. Gift Ngoepe – 3B

Additionally, Ivan Nova and Angel Sanchez are scheduled to pitch in a Minor League game later today. Nova is scheduled to throw 60-65 pitches, while Sanchez is scheduled to throw 20 pitches. Sanchez is another pitcher that will start the year at Triple-A, but could find himself in the Major Leagues at some point in 2017.

Right-handed pitcher Mike Wright is scheduled to start for the Orioles. Gabriel Ynoa (RHP), Darren O’Day (RHP), Donnie Hart (LHP), and Oliver Drake (RHP) are all scheduled to pitch as well.

As of this writing, 10:08 AM, the Baltimore Orioles had not yet released their lineup for Saturday afternoon.
