The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to bounce back on Wednesday

This afternoon the Pittsburgh Pirates will host the Baltimore Orioles at LECOM Park. This will be the 18th game of the Grapefruit League schedule for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Additionally, this will be the fourth time they have played the Baltimore Orioles.

In their last match up, the Orioles walked off the Pirates this past Saturday. The Pirates were also a victim of a walk-off loss against the Atlanta Braves on Monday. With that loss, the Pirates check into today’s game with a Grapefruit League record of 12-5.

Jameson Taillon will start for the Pirates this afternoon. This will be Taillon’s third start this spring. In his first two starts he has allowed two runs on a home run, three hits, two walks, and four strikeouts in four innings pitched.

Taillon is scheduled to pitch four inning for the Pirates this afternoon. After Taillon, three of the Pirates’ top relief pitchers are scheduled to pitch. These three pitchers are Antonio Bastardo, Jared Hughes, and Juan Nicasio.

Right-handed pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez will make the start for the Orioles.

As of this writing, neither team’s lineup had yet been made public. However, stay tuned here at Rum Bunter for when the lineups are released before first pitch.

Other Notes

  • Team Italy has been eliminated from the World Baseball Classic. This means that Francisco Cervelli will return to the Pirates this week.
  • Team Canada has also been eliminated which should lead to Eric Wood getting additional reps with the Pirates in Grapefruit League action
  • Jung Ho Kang is still waiting to clear up his Visa issues in order to report to Bradenton. Unfortunately, acquiring/renewing a work Visa for the United States has become much more difficult in the past 53 days.
