It seems we’ve been talking about AJ Burnett for a week now, but news from Ken Rosenthal today is that the Yankees want a deal in place before Saturday. Pitchers and catchers are to report to Tampa for the Yankees on Sunday, so it does put a nice bow on the entire process.
The Pirates seem to be the sole trade partner in the talks at this time. Sources throughout the league have all come back to Pittsburgh as the realistic trade partner in the deal.

As Jon Anderson reported last week, the Pittsburgh Pirates did work out Dmitri Young today. We understand Young is still alive after the workout.
“He met all the criteria we wanted to see,” Hurdle said. “He ran the bases, took balls at first base, threw from the outfield and hit from both sides of the plate. We were able to get a read on him.”
You know the roles on the team: Fielders, Pitchers, Coaches…
AJ Burnett. Millions of dollars. Prospects headed to New York. No prospects of high regard going to New York. A two-time champion headed to PNC Park.

The AJ Burnett to the Pittsburgh Pirates deal sounds like it is about to wrap up shortly. Buster Olney ripped off a few tweets a few minutes ago that explain that the two clubs have not decided on players or money, but are talking within common ground to wrap up the deal.
