Trading away top trade chips

It is very possible that Cherington’s to MLB Winter Meetings will be to move the top trade chips that the Pittsburgh Pirates have. This list of players would include second baseman Adam Frazier and starting pitchers Joe Musgrove and Steven Brault.

Reliever Richard Rodriguez could be on the block as well. Odds are, Cherington will also be willing to at least listen on trade offers for first baseman Josh Bell. Starting pitcher Chad Kuhl could be a player to watch too, as he did generate some trade interest back at the trade deadline in late August.

Understandably, fans do not want to hear about the Pittsburgh Pirates trading away some of their best players. Especially when the team is coming off a 19-41 season and is not exactly oozing with top tier MLB talent.

All of that said, what’s best for the organization as a whole right now is to build for the future. The best way to do that is to stockpile as much young talent as possible. Cherington can do this by trading away some of the players we mentioned. If nothing else, fans should expect Cherington to spend the Winter Meetings laying the groundwork for trades later in the offseason.
