Double-A Altoona gets back over .500

It did not come easy, but the Double-A Altoona Curve escaped with a 2-1 victory over the Akron RubberDucks on Wednesday. With the win the Curve improved to 9-8 on the season to get back over the .500 mark.

Third baseman Jared Triolo once again bat leadoff for the Curve, but this time he was 0-for-4 at the plate. Batting second, second baseman Nick Gonzales was also 0-for-4. Designated hitter Blake Sabol was also 0-for-4.

Shortstop Liover Peguero was 1-for-4 and left fielder Lolo Sanchez was 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of walks. Center fielder Matt Fraizer was just 1-for-4, but he did drive in both runs for the Curve.

The real star for the Curve on Wednesday night was starting pitcher Mike Burrows. In 5 scoreless innings pitched Burrows allowed just 2 hits, walked a pair and struck out 7. This outing lowered his ERA on he season to 1.00. If Burrows continues to pitch the way he has he could find himself at Triple-A soon.

After Burrows, Noe Toribio took the mound. Toribio allowed a run on 3 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts in 3.0 innings itched. The lone run that Toribio allowed came via a solo home run. Austin Roberts then struck out a pair in a scoreless 9th inning to close the door in a Curve victory.
