Grasshoppers suffer another loss

The recent struggles for the Pittsburgh Pirates High-A affiliate continued on Sunday afternoon. The Greensboro Grasshoppers suffered a 5-2 loss in 10 innings against the Asheville Tourists, falling to 11-15 on the season.

Outfielder Hudson Head continued the strong start to what has thus far been a much needed bounce back season by hitting his 1st triple of the season. Head drove in a run and now has an .803 OPS on the season.

Jackson Glenn started at third base and bat leadoff, going 1-for-5. In his final game at the High-A level Henry Davis served as the team’s designated hitter going 0-for-2 with a walk. Catcher Abrahan Gutierrez was 1-for-3 with a walk, center fielder Matt Gorski and shortstop Dariel Lopez each had a hit as well.

Sean Sullivan started for the Grasshoppers and turned in a strong start. He allowed a hit, walked 2 and struck out 3 in 4 scoreless innings pitched. Logan Hofmann pitched a scoreless inning and Adrian Florencio pitched 2 scoreless.

While Cam Junker allowed a run in 1/3 of an inning pitched, Tyler Samaniego helped clean things up. After pitching 1.2 scoreless innings of relief Samaniego now has a 0.87 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 10.1 innings pitched this season. If Samaniego continues to pitch this way he will find himself at Altoona soon.

Eddy Yean pitched the 10th inning and that’s when things came unglued. Yean allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, on 4 hits, and a strikeout. On the season Yean now has a 7.50 ERA as his prospect status continues to plummet.
