Bats explode for Double-A Altoona in victory
Friday night the Double-A Altoona Curve improved to 17-20 on the season with a 12-4 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels. The bats carried the Curve to victory, leading the Curve offense was outfielder Matt Fraizer. Fraizer was 3-for-5 with his 2nd home run of the season and 4 RBI.
Nick Gonzales remained hot at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a pair of walks. After a woeful start to the season, all of a sudden Gonzales has a .784 OPS on the season. Andres Alvarez was 1-for-4 with a RBI at the top of the lineup while Jared Triolo was 1-for-5.
Liover Peguero served as the team’s designated hitter going 2-for-5 with his 4th triple of the season. Center fielder Connor Scott hit his 2nd triple of the season as part of a 2-for-3 with a walk performance. Tucupita Marcano started at second base going 2-for-2 with a double and 3 walks, he now has a .799 OPS this season.
Mike Burrows started for Altoona and continued to shove. In 5 innings pitched Burrows allowed a run on 2 hits, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Burrows now has a 2.27 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 35.2 innings pitched this season. Sooner rather than later Burrows will be turning heads in Pittsburgh.
Bear Bellomy followed Burrows, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk in 2 innings pitched out of the Curve bullpen. Will Kobos pitched the final 2 innings of the game, allowing 2 hits, issuing a walk and striking out a pair in 2 scoreless innings pitched.
