Mike Burrows continues to shove for Altoona
At the Double-A level the Altoona Curve improved to 21-21 on the season with a 5-2 victory over the Harrisburg Senators. The star for the Curve was Mike Burrows who continues to be one of the best pitching prospects the Pittsburgh Pirates have.
Burrows went 7 innings for the Curve, allowing just 2 hits, walking a batter and striking out 8. In is 7 innings of work Burrows did not allow a run, lowering his ERA on the season to 1.90. Burrows has now pitched 42.2 innings in 9 starts, striking out 54 batters. It’s time to get Burrows to Triple-A.
Tahnaj Thomas followed Burrows, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, 3 walks and a strikeout in 2/3 of an inning pitched. Enmanuel Mejia then took over for Thomas, striking out 3 batters in 1.1 scoreless, hitless innings pitched.
Leadoff man Jared Triolo started at third base, going 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Nick Gonzales was 0-for-3 with a walk, shortstop Liover Peguero was 2-for-4 with his 4th home run of the season and 2 RBI. Peguero continues to push for a promotion to Triple-A, especially once Oneil Cruz is promoted to the majors.
Matt Fraizer also hit a home run for the Curve. His 3rd home run of the season was part of a 2-for-4 performance. In right field Connor Scott was 2-for-4, continuing his strong season as he improved his OPS to .799. Matt Gorski continued his strong start to his Double-A career, going 1-for-4 giving him an .895 OPS through his first 13 Double-A at-bats.
