Pirates Spring Training Day Five Makes Us Go Hmmmm…
By Tom Smith
Some very interesting
things are happening in Pirates City.
Steve Pearce was in the outfield today. Interesting. Cool. Hit the curveball Steve.
Scott Olsen out for a week after he said he was dehydrated. WTF? Please don’t tell me Olsen is going to be on our wasted cash spreadsheet. No. It’s too early. Right?

Will having some of the pressure off in the short term help or hinder Charlie Morton? We need to think about that for a day or two. Is Brian Burres going to take advantage of this opportunity? Sigh. Get well Mr. Olsen.
Luis Heredia, Stetson Allie and Jameson Taillon are in town with the Bucs early Minor League camp. You know you want to watch Heredia one more time…here you go:
Both Donnie Veal and Jose Ascanio threw less than 35 pitches today. Keep an eye on Veal as he recovers, he is going to push the Bucs to push him.
Yesterday’s news from the Pirates included Coach Leyva working with Andrew McCutchen on improving his baserunning skills. We absolutely love baserunning, hell we love it so much we spent nearly eight hours of our life putting this detailed article together. You need to read it.

Today the news about Leyva was much more exciting. We heard that he will be using most of the drills that Perry Hill used during his cup of coffee with the team. How brilliant is that? Now of course, he isn’t Hill, but we appreciate a coach recognizing the best in the business and using his material. Kudos.
