Pittsburgh Pirates Caffeine: Redford To Throw Out First Pitch In Wrigley
By Tom Smith
The Pittsburgh Pirates
played like major league roster filler yesterday at Port Charlotte, Florida. The ugliness led to a six inning 5-5 tie that was broken by a Justin Ruggiano two-run single off Joel Hanrahan.
While the Rays busted open the game late, the Bucs bats fell silent. The new look Rays bullpen shut down the Bucs youngsters. Joel Peralta, Cesar Ramos, and Andy Sonnanstine pitched very well. Sonnastine was the only reliever to give up anything.
The vicitm of the Pirates poor play was Charlie Morton. Although the electric stuff wasn’t readily available, but he deserved better. It was noticeable in the second inning when two outs were avoided simply by poor fielding. Matt Diaz misplayed a fly ball into a double and Ryan Doumit told Morton to throw the ball to third when the play was at first.
Morton allowed five hits and walked three while throwing 80 pitchers. He did something we’ve never seen as well. Morton fouled off five pitches then got a hit. He also got a bunt down after being in an 0-2 hole. Thank you Gregg Ritchie.
Josh Rodriguez had a clutch two-run single to give the Bucs a 5-3 lead.
It was disgusting how many Rays runners took second base. Seemingly at will.

"“I don’t think I’ve ever felt this good,” Overbay said. “I remember in ’06, the last week I was really feeling good and that helped. The balls are finding holes right now, so that’s part of it, too. I have been taking advantage of the pitches, but hopefully it will kind of progress right on to the season in terms of being ready from pitch one. I don’t think I’ve done that in the past.” Lyle Overbay on MLB.com"

From Twitter land. James McDonald will pitch in minor league game today. Brad Lincoln will throw a bullpen today after throwing some long toss yesterday.

Justin writes for the Phillies. Here’s his witness guide to the Barry Bonds trial. The Phillies suck. But Justin can write like a demon. We think you will enjoy this…
