Pittsburgh Pirates Trade Rumors: Huntington On the Hunt for Power

The Pittsburgh Pirates are stalking Carlos Pena

and missed on Carlos Beltran.  As the trade deadline looms, various stories are coming out about the Bucs looking for a deal to add offense.

Carlos Beltran appears to be on the move from New York to San Francisco for top pitching prospect Zach Wheeler.  A deal to Pittsburgh apparently was laughed at by the All-Star outfielder.  We doubt the Bucs wanted to part with their top pitching prospect, but a package of more prospects was presented to the Mets from what we hear, we just don’t specifically know who they were.  But who cares, Beltran would have helped, but giving up our version of Jameson Taillon….uh, no thanks.

In a story linked below, the Bucs are focused in on Pena.  The Cubs first baseman isn’t hitting well at the moment–his wOBA is suffering because of the recent slide.  Pena is saying the right things to the Chicago media too—do you really think he wants to go back to Chicago after his one-year deal is up?  Hell no.

What would Pena provide to the Pirates you ask?  Serious power.  Serious defense.  Laughable batting average.  Serious production this season against the NL Central.
