Four Pittsburgh Pirates Make Elias Type B List

Elias Rankings have been released. As we thought four Pittsburgh Pirates made the list: Ryan Doumit, Derrek Lee, Chris Snyder and Ryan Ludwick are type B free agents.

The Pirates will get a first round compensation pick in the 2012 draft for each of these players if two things happen.  The Bucs will need to offer arbitration to the player and the player will need to spurn the Bucs offer and the player would have to sign with another club.

We think this quote from Neal Huntington directly pertains to the Bucs making some offers for a couple of these players and the trade that many people think Huntington is close to cracking.

"“We’ve got to be willing to take some chances,” Huntington said. “We’ve got to be willing to make some tough financial decisions. We’ll see how it plays out this offseason, but we’re confident that we’ll end up with a good option.”"

We could see the Pirates making offers to Doumit and Lee.  It would make sense.  Something also tells us that they might make an offer to Snyder if he is deemed healthy.

The Pirates made some bold moves today in the eyes of the Pirates fans.  It’s always hard seeing your favorite player get turned away.  But stay tuned the real drama is yet to come.
