Flashback Video: The Last Pittsburgh Pirates Championship Parade

facebooktwitterreddit

The video

below was filmed in April of 2009. Pittsburgh Pirates GM Neal Huntington talked about building a winner in Pittsburgh, and having a parade for the Bucs like the Steelers had just done.

As you know, the last Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Championship parade was in 1979.

I never saw any footage of it until I watched the video below from MichelleLiTV. Willie Stargell rocked a cowboy hat in his swag glory as the World Series MVP.  Chuck Tanner is a dancing machine. Bill Madlock taps his leg to the beat.

November sunglasses cover the eyes of the champs that had won the heart of the Pittsburgh faithful. I have to wonder how much harder everyone would have partied if they only knew just how long it would be until it happened again? With all of the changes MLB is making in their new agreement, it might be a long long time until the Pirates even sniff a November parade again.

The first portion of the video shows highlights from the win over the Orioles. The parade footage kicks into gear about the 2:20 mark with the guy hanging from the light pole.  Classic.
