The Pittsburgh Pirates

made another move today when they acquired Kansas City Royals infielder Yamaico Navarro.  Brooks Pounders, a 2009 second-round pick and Diego Goris were sent to KC.

Navarro is 24 years old and has some interesting history based on what appears to be a lack of maturity.  His lack of hitting at the Major League level in 42 games seems a bit worrisome.  He did show some pop at the AAA level between the Red Sox and Royals organization where he had seven bombs and eleven doubles in 59 games.

He is athletic and played some outfield, but most scouting reports love his athleticism.  He has the look of a player.  He broke his hamate bone a few years back which limited his numbers, but his walk rate is improving.  His quick wrists and stroke at the plate are liked by several scouting reports.

The stocky Pounders is 20 years old and pitched well for Class A West Virginia.  He had one start and over 36 games posted some solid numbers, but his lack of strikeouts always concerned us.

Goris is 20 years old and didn’t see action outside of the DSL in four seasons.
