Pirates Farm System Climbs in Rankings, Wes Freeman Interview

The Pittsburgh Pirates farm system is improving each year in various rankings.  Minor League Ball is a great site that ranked the Bucs with the 14th best system in the Major Leagues. 

They posted a brief interview with Wes Freeman today that you might enjoy.  Freeman is an interesting player that seems to have turned on the light switch.

We saw the 6’4″ 215 pounder at State College this year and Freeman has a cannon.  It made me realize that Baseball America saying he could be a five-tool player might have been on the money.

But he struggled early in his career effectively squeelching any prospect buzz around him.  He reduced his eye popping strikeout rates and was one of the few players to actually hit well for the Spikes.  He earned a late season promotion to West Virginia as a result.

It will be interesting to see if he can continue the improvements at  WestVirginia.  He started with the Power last year, but failed and was sent back to State College where it was more of the same.  But then he started to get hot, even posting a monster August OPS which is when we were able to see him.
