Pittsburgh Pirates Caffeine: Pictures and Video from Pirates Spring Training

Pedro Alvarez

looks relaxed despite being followed all over Pirate City by Casey McGehee. Surely Alvarez feels some sort of pressure, but he didn’t let it show. He was strong in the fielding drills as was McGehee who picked everything out of the dirt at first base. But when it came to hitting the ball yesterday, Pedro was king. And it was incredible to watch. Wish you were here.

Several pitchers were in the bullpen at 845am including Jeff Locke, Daniel Moskos, Kyle McPherson, Bryan Morris. The coaches weren’t present. The players waited until roughly 9am and then all of them walked back to the complex. The coaches and the players returned about ten minutes later and “the early work” began. It lasted roughly fifteen minutes with several pitchers working on their mechanical delivery for at best five minutes.

Daniel Moskos received most of the attention while the other pitchers watched. Everything was wrapped up by 9:20.

The baserunning drills were popular for the large crowd at Pirate City yesterday. We must admit it’s hard not to enjoy the speedy Pirates rounding second base and headed for third. The players even ran inside-the-park homers yesterday.

Anderson Hernandez played shortstop yesterday on field one. He didn’t have a good day.

Jake Fox was ripping the baseball yesterday. He also caught on field two which was the first time I saw him put on the catching gear. In the video below, Fox is catching Brad Lincoln during live BP.
