Pittsburgh Pirates: The Latest Pedro Alvarez Homerless Streak Has Me Jonesin’

facebooktwitterreddit

Everybody loves the long ball, not just chicks.  So when a Pittsburgh Pirates player hits a bomb, and it happens often this year, it’s always a thrill.   We think it’s partially because of Greg Brown’s reaction, but most importantly because the power that the Bucs have showed typically sends the team one game closer to reaching heights that few thought possible this season.

But one player gets us pumped up when they hit it out of the park, more than the other guys, we admit it.  If you visit this site often, you know what name we are going to say.

You’ve seen the photoshops.

You’ve seen our tweets.

Pedro Alvarez sends us off.  Maybe it’s because he is such an important player for the Pirates success.  Maybe it’s because he is a really cool guy with a great wife.  But maybe it’s that sound.  The sound the ball makes when Pedro Alvarez turns on a baseball.

You know what we are talking about.

But you know what, it’s been seventeen days.  We just keep staring at this picture below.  We are jonesin’ for a Pedro Bomb.

We’re jonesin’ so bad, that we went back and looked at how many games Pedro went without a homerun before this current stretch.  It was twenty games.

It happened betweeen May 4 and May 26.  During that stretch of games, Alvarez went from a .260 average, .295 on-base percentage, .603 slugging, and OPS of .898 to where he landed on May 25 which was a .205/.267/.417/.684.   Petey struckout 27 times and walked eight times during the stretch, he had ten hits with just three of them going for doubles.

The Pirates hovered around .500 during that stretch of PedroBombless games.

As we await the Dodgers to take the field today, Alvarez has gone 17 games without a PedroBomb.  When he hit the bomb against Miami his line was .232/.301/.502/.803 to where his numbers are today which is .233/.307/.461/.768.   During this stretch Pedro has struckout 19 times and walked eight, he has 14 hits with just one going for extra bases.  Pedro has driven in two runs over the seventeen games.

We need it.  Give us the fix we need Pedro.

It’s almost time.
