Dilson Herrera played for the first time in the United States this year.  It was a smashing success as the infielder led the Gulf Coast League in total bases and extras base hits.  The little guy has some serious pop as well finishing second in home runs.

Herrera made it to State College late in the season and in 29 plate appearances had nine hits including a double, triple and a bomb.

The performance during his time in the Gulf Coast League was recognized by Topps who named Herrera the Player of the Year for the GCL.

This winter he is also having more success which we noticed by this Ben Badler tweet.

Pirates 2B Dilson Herrera raked in the Colombia winter league’s all-star game. Homered twice and drove in six runs to win MVP.

The 5’10” 150 pound native of Columbia is a name to watch in the Bucs system as he doesn’t turn 19 until March.  He has played 59 games at second base and the same number of games at third base.
