The Keith Law Dumpfest: Starling Marte, Vic Black, Gerrit Cole, Top 100 Prospects

Gerrit Cole got some love from Keith Law today on the Top 100 and in his chat–sorta.

Keith Law released his top 100 prospects list today and also had a chat that featured some opinion on the Pittsburgh Pirates.

First up is the chat that is now up in which Law waxes on some interesting topics including Starling Marte who Law mentioned that would be better than struggling losing at bats, but worse than an average regular.

When Law was asked about Vic Black, he chirped good luck getting him to throw strikes.

On Gerrit Cole’s fastball being hittable, Law wrote:  “Four-seamer is pretty true. Needs to work more with the two-seamer and changeup.”

Go check out the rest of the chat here.

All of the usual suspects are on Law’s list.

Gerrit Cole tops out as the second pitcher on the list and ranked number eight.   Law still thinks the changeup Cole has is above average.

Jameson Taillon came in at number 20 on the countdown.  Law discussed the Pirates focus on the drop and drive delivery that Taillon has tweaked.

The big surprise for me was shortstop Alen Hanson checking in at 34.  Maybe this kid is for real, we just can’t wait for the season to get going so he can prove it.  Gregory Polanco was number 55 with Law mentioning 25-plus homer potential.  Gulp.  Can you imagine if…ah, nevermind.

Luis Heredia came in at number 84 with Law saying he sees him as a number two or three starter.  Details about the curveball were mentioned which is a work in progress for the teenager.
