VIDEO: Pirates Draft Pick Jacoby Jones Comes Up Huge in Super Regional

Most of the experts believe that LSU is the best team in the country.  Pittsburgh Pirates third-round pick Jacoby Jones showed why.  LSU was facing Oklahoma with MLB’s number three overall pick Jonathan Gray on the mound.

It took a while, but LSU finally got to Gray after the Colorado Rockies first round pick threw triple digit heat most of the day.

Video of the game is here including the Jones triple which broke open the pitching duel.  If you like pitching, it’s the game for you…Jacoby Jones from ESPN3 in the Super Regional  (pull it up around 2:07 mark to see Jones do his magic.)

For eight innings the big right-hander for Oklahoma fired 100 plus pitches (he exited with 118 on the day–which surely had to delight the Rockies management) and it wasn’t until the eighth inning that LSU was able to crack him.  Jones was the guy to do it first.  LSU Sophomore Tyler Moore followed with a double to plate Jones for the eventual game winner.

"“You’re seeing the ball well tonight,” LSU coach Paul Mainieri said he told Jones, a third-round pick Friday by the Pittsburgh Pirates, in the early innings. “You’re going to get this guy.”"

If you don’t have time to watch the game, here you go…. with one out in the eighth inning, Jones crushed a triple on an 0-2 count to the right-center field wall giving LSU life.  It was just the Tigers fourth hit of the game in front of 12,000 fans and the first LSU runner to reach second base.

Jones ripped a heater out of the zone for his first triple of the year.

It couldn’t have happened at a better time.
