Five Pittsburgh Pirates In Deep

RumBunter circled the pitching mounds of the winter leagues

once again looking at five Pittsburgh Pirates pitchers still getting in some quality work.

Jose Ascanio has pitched five innings.   He has allowed one run, five hits, and struck out one.  Opponents are hitting .313 off the right hander.

Anthony Claggett had a nice week.  He went 7.2 innings (one start, one relief) allowing three hits, two earned runs, three walks and five strikeouts.  On the season Claggett has pitched 19.2 innings, allowed ten hits, three earned runs, four walks, twelve strikeouts.  Bad guys are hitting .154.

Jean Machi has pitched 23.2 innnings and has 22 strikeouts.

Fernando Nieve had two starts recently.  On Dec 11, he pitched six innings  and allowed no runs.    On December 17,  he went 4.2 innings, allowed seven hits and four runs.  He has pitched 30.1 innings this winter, allowed 33 hits and struckout 18.

Cesar Valdez has pitched 41 innings this winter allowed 40 hits, 19 earned runs, struckout 24 and walked 13.  The opposition is hitting .252 off Valdez.
