Scratch A New Name In The Pittsburgh Pirates Shortstop Concrete

facebooktwitterreddit

It’s official. Around lunchtime today,

Brandon Wood was claimed by the Pittsburgh Pirates.  This means thirty teams have said thanks, but no thanks to the Los Angeles Angels player.  A shortstop that plays first base too?  Sounds like a name from last season, well if the Bucs keep whiffing at this rate, Wood should feel right at home–8K’s/14AB in 2011, 71K/243AB in 2010.

Thirty teams didn’t want to risk a bucket of balls?   We kinda wish someone would have rolled the dice on him, but screw it.  Sharpen the rock.  What the hell.  Scratch it in the wall. Serious power in the minors, along with hundreds of strikeouts. He can’t be any worse than what’s scratched on the walls already can he? (The real answer is yes. And that is hard to even fathom.)

The Pittsburgh Pirates relentless pursuit of a shortstop looks continues. It must continue, but do you really deep down think Brandon Wood is the answer?  It might be an answer, but damn, taking a close look at it it seems like it’s a painful one. To me, it must mean that evaluators think Josh Rodriguez isn’t the answer.

Help us.

Please fix Ronny Cedeno.  Someone.  Anyone.  In a city with the finest medical professionals in the world surely….ah, nevermind. I got some work today on the wall of my cell.
