State College Spikes Locked And Loaded For 2011

The State College Spikes open their season on June 19. It will

be a perfect chance for you to escape on a Sunday to State College as the Pirates are in Cleveland.

We’re pumped for the Spikes in 2011. As most know, we consider State to be our stomping grounds growing up. If you’ve never been make certain this year is the last that you have to say that to your friends. Do it.

Last week we had the opportunity to speak with the Spikes Assistant GM Chris Phillips and came away impressed. After checking out their 2011 promotional video, it’s easy to see that going home this summer will happen a bit more.

The epic meltdown of Gary Robinson was the big splash last season in the viral world, let’s trust the Spikes are known more in 2011 about the on the field product. They have everything else taken care of, just check out what’s going on this summer in State College. (After you watch Robinson’s meltdown one more time.)

After we checked out the numerous promotions that the Spikes have–from vintage hats to retro tin lunch boxes– it’s easy to see that going to Medlar Field will be a blast.  It’s hard to decide whether to plan a trip around a possible Stetson Allie start or the tribute to managerial implosions night, or the wrestling night, or the 80’s night.

But one thing is easy to decide, the sheer amount of talent anticipated in State College this summer is damned exciting.  It just sucks we have to wait more than 30 days for the opener.
