Pittsburgh Pirates Moving Down The Radio Dial

facebooktwitterreddit

We had been hearing some whispers that the Pittsburgh Pirates would be moving to 93.7 The Fan for over a year now.   Apparently, it is gospel as legendary Pittsburgh columnist and self-appointed media “expert” Bob Smizik confirmed it in a report here.

Clear Channel has had the rights to the Bucs since 2007, along with the Steelers (102.5) and the Penguins (105.9).  Moving off 104.7 is good news, if only because the ranting of politics will not be ringing in the ears of listeners between innings.

It will be interesting to see how the station provides coverage around the Bucs.  We must say we have tuned in more this year than we ever have before. We can’t say it’s most listenable radio station  (outside of Chris M on the late shift), but the Fan has made strides.

We couldn’t even listen as recently as a year ago.  We will never forget having a meltdown during the first year when a Fan intern struggled to pronounce Kent Tekulve’s name….. for three straight hours during the sports updates.

We see this move as very positive for the Pirates.  Yet another move closer to being relevant.
