Pirates in AFL: Grossman Hitting Streak to Four Games, Cunningham Homers

The Arizona Fall League

has been great for one Pittsburgh Pirates prospect.   Robbie Grossman has been devouring pitching as a member of the winless Mesa Solar Sox, but the offense had been non-existent for teammate Jarek Cunningham.

Until yesterday.

The Bucs infielder broke out of an 0-for-8 skid with his first hit of the Arizona Fall League season.  Cunningham made it count too went he went deep for a two-run shot off Rafters starter Dallas Keuchel (Astros.)

It was the only mistake Keuchel would make in his three innings of work and would be the only runs the Sox could manage until the eighth inning when the other Pirates player in the lineup made an impact.

Grossman, who is riding a four-game hitting streak, tied the game in the eighth inning with a single.  Grossman also stole a base in the 4-3 Solar Sox loss.

It’s nice to see Cunningham snap out, and it’s sweet to see Grossman keep on hitting.

Now when Gerrit Cole joins the Solar Sox and gets into the rotation for his first professional start all eyes are going to be focused on the desert. I am just crossing my fingers that he can pitch well enough to pile up some innings.
