The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds are piling up the hit by pitches over the course of the 2013 season.  Here is our tally of each game the teams have played against each other, along with the batters hit by pitches.

The Pirates jumped out to an early lead, but the Reds have quickly closed the gap heading into tonights game at PNC Park.

April 12, nobody was beaned.  Bucs win 6-5

April 13, Shin-Soo Choo is hit by Jeff Locke to lead off the game.  Bucs run away against Reds bullpen win 3-1.  (+1 HBP Bucs)

April 14, Shin-Soo Choo is hit by a pitch.  After Phil Irwin gave up five early, Bucs come back for 10-7 win. (+2 HBP Bucs)

May 31, bottom of the first Andrew McCutchen is hit by pitch.  Top of the fifth Choo is hit by pitch and in the top of the eighth Mike Zagurski, on in relief of Wandy Rodriguez plunks Brandon Phillips with a pitch.   Bucs lose 6-0 on a one-hitter by Johnny Cueto.  (4-1 Bucs)

June 1:  Brandon Phillips and Todd Frazier are hit by pitches in the eighth against Tony Watson.  Pirates lose 2-0 despite ten hits.  (6-1 Bucs)

June 2:  Shin-Soo Choo is hit by a pitch against Jeanmar Gomez.  Reds score four in first off Gomez, Pirates rally.  GFJ puts it in the river.  Neil Walker is hit in the bottom of the first.  Choo is hit again in the fourth by Vin Mazzaro.  In the eighth, Jonathan Broxton hits Starling Marte.  In the tenth, Marte is hit again, Travis Snider walks it off.  Bucs win.  (8-4 Bucs)

June 17:  In the top of the fourth Andrew McCutchen is hit by pitch.  Pirates bats go cold, team loses 4-1. (8-5 Bucs)

June 18:  Shin-Soo Choo is hit to lead off the game by Charlie Morton.  Bucs win 4-0.  (9-5 Bucs)

June 19:  Jordy Mercer is hit in the top of the ninth.  Brandon Phillips walks it off in the 13th, Reds win 2-1.  (9-6 Bucs)

July 19:  Nobody is hit.  Bucs get bombs from Marte, Cutch, and Russell Martin lose 5-3.

July 20:  Jack Hannahan is hit by A.J. Burnett.  In top of eighth, Marte is plunked by Alfred, Simon, loads bases.  Bucs don’t score, lose 5-4.  (10-7 Bucs)

July 21:  Jeff Locke allows just one hit over six innings.  In top of ninth, Jordy Mercer is hit by pitch.  Bucs win 3-2.  (10-8 Bucs)

Sept 20:  In top of the eighth inning Andrew McCutchen beaned.  Reds come-from-behind for the victory.

So there you have it, by our unofficial scorecard the Bucs are up 10-9.
