Russell Martin became a fan favorite in Pittsburgh. Over the past two seasons was credited with helping an outgunned pitching staff in 2013 and 2014. This year, the Pirates catcher had one of the biggest offensive years of his career.

That brings us to the current situation.  Russell Martin is going to be one of the most sought after free agents this winter.  Some suggest that a Brinks truck will backup to his front door.  In a recent interview, Martin proclaimed his affection for the Boston Red Sox.

Confused?  You might recall Martin saying he hated the Red Sox just a few years ago in this ESPN article.

"Anything to get the Red Sox out would be awesome for me…because I hate the Red Sox.  They are fun to play against because they have a quality team and they are gritty and play hard and stuff, but I would love to see them lose."

Ladies and gentlemen, MLB free agency can even cure hatred.  Yeh, money still talks.  Martin no longer hates the Red Sox.    Somehow, we missed this, but in an interview with WEEI.com, Martin said this.

"It’s definently a place to consider if the option is there.  It’s a great baseball town.  People love their baseball.  For the most part they’ve always been competitive.  They’ve got a great team.  Pedroia is one of my personal favorites.  I love the way he competes so it would be a pleasure playing with him.”"

Smart man that Russell Martin.  Smart man.
