Watts, Durham Carolina All-Stars. Alvarez Not.

Two 2006 draft choices were selected as Carolina League All-Stars after impressive first-halves of the season for the Lynchburg Hillcats.  Catcher Kris Watts (.883OPS, 3HR, 22RBI) and OF Miles Durham ( .816OPS, 6HR, 33RBI).  [Kris Watts page]  [Miles Durham page]

Pedro Alvarez was not selected to the Carolina League All Star game.  Here is why.  A third baseman with some gaudy numbers.  [Lonnie Chisenhall]  Chisenhall was the only 3B with an OPS higher than Pedro.

If you look at the league leaders you will see that Alvarez is firmly down this league leader list based on batting average.   [Carolina League Leaders].  Look closer and you will notice Alvarez is tied for second in the league RBI race.  Chisenhall also has ten homers like Alvarez.  (Cody Johnson leads the league with 18)

Another reason for Alvarez not making the cut?  League managers and media couldn’t have been thrilled with Pedro’s penchant for dramatically pulling victories out for his league leading Hillcats in several games.

Go ahead and play your All-Star game without Pedro.  Yawn.
