Keith Law Ranks 2011 MLB Organizations
By Tom Smith
Keith Law has pegged
the Kansas City Royals in the number one spot with Tampa Bay ranked second.
The Pittsburgh Pirates? Well, it’s not very exciting. Of course it could be worse, the Astros [27]and Brewers [last] are ranked behind the Pirates, but we had faith that Law would have felt the Pirates system was somewhere in the middle of the pack. Perhaps as high as 14 where the Cardinals ranked, but it didn’t happen.
Well this is what Law had to say as the Bucs ranked just outside the Top 20 at number 21.
"“This system consists of a few high-end prospects, including three teenage power arms, followed by a dropoff. The big investment in prep arms in 2009 hasn’t yielded any major prospects yet, although it’s early.” Keith Law"
Talk about a say nothing sentence. The prep arms investment hasn’t yielded anything….although it’s early? Let me give this a try….
"“….the 2009 prep arms haven’t done shit, but it’s only 2011.”—Tom Smith"
What the hell is that? We pay for this shit? Law is like a pastry chef that doesn’t use sugar. It’s always staight from his eyes to his work. No outside influence. It’s why we look forward to his opinion. But this is a big puff pastry. The guy knows his shit and has reasons for his rankings, I wish he would get more than two sentences to explain those reasons.
We will work on getting what we can from his propspect rankings. But one would have to believe having an organizational ranking of 21 and just two sentences equates to little surprises in Law’s Top 100 Prospects today.
