Pirates Evan Meek Has Torn Labrum

Leave it to Dr. Andrews

to find the answer.  The Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star reliever Evan Meek has a torn labrum reports Karen Price of the Tribune Review.  Meek feels the quarter inch tear won’t need surgery.

Here is the tidbit from her story.

The Pirates bullpen has been working hard to replace all of the innings Meek ate up last season.  With the injury news it seems unlikely Meek would want to risk further damage by pitching this season.  Without surgery it is unclear how long Meek would need to heal as it certainly can’t heal itself under the stress of being a major league baseball pitcher.

Meek has pitched 14.1 innings this season after working 80 innings last season.

Just how badly has Meek suffered this year?  In those 14.1 innings he has allowed 22 hits, he allowed 53 all of last season.

This one is going to sting.  Get well Evan.
