Pirates Jeff Locke Gets the Hometown Love

We always

enjoy reading hometown papers.  It all gets printed.  Jeff Locke is now living the dream with the Bucs, and The Conway Daily Sun got the scoop.

When Locke mentioned this, we have to think somebody was slacking on the Indians staff…

"Locke struck out two in the first inning and then issued a walk. The next batter, Neftali Soto, took Locke’s first pitch over the right-field fence.“I didn’t know who the guy was or have any scouting report on him,” Locke said. “I’d just struck out two in a row so I figured I’d start him out with a fastball down the middle. The first pitch I threw, he crushed and hit it out. I later learned he’s hit 32 homers at AA."

Sometimes, players are really excited and say things that I am pretty sure they doesn’t really, really, really mean.  Does Locke do this when he says the following?

"“I’m at the pinnacle of what I’ve worked for, it’s such a surreal feeling.”"

Enough picking on the guy.  He made the bigs.  Our sorry asses didn’t.  Locke worked his ass off from the time we saw him in Spring Training until the moment he got word he was headed to Pittsburgh.  It’s a great article – from talking about driving in with Daniel Moskos, to how he tricked his Mom into knowing he was headed to Pittsburgh.

Now I am homesick.
