Our Five Favorite Mark Appel Videos

It’s still hard to imagine a talent like Mark Appel falling to the number eight spot and the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft.  Appel didn’t speak with the Pittsburgh media after the draft.  He issued a statement saying he was concentrating on winning a championship and studying for exams.

Sure he was.

An interesting take, to say the least, from such a talented player.  Or, more likely,  an interesting take from his agent Scott Boras.

This video includes some nice readings on the radar gun.

Appel on the mound against the Japanese Collegiate National Team last year.

Mark Appel talks about his favorite baseball team, his favorite player, the Astrodome and shares his thoughts on the prospect of being the No. 1 MLB draft pick – which obviously didn’t happen.

Here is Appel pitching with the the 2011 USA Collegiate National Team.

And, our favorite video of Appel: starting for the Y-D Red Sox in Game 1 of the first round of the 2011 Cape Cod Baseball League playoffs against the Orleans Firebirds at Eldgedge Park.

Appel was dazzling, going 8 innings and scattering just five hits without allowing a run and 10 strike outs. (embedding the video was disabled, please click the link below – it’s worth it.)
