In this edition of the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League Minute, we will give you a quick look at how players from the Pirates Minor League system performed during the Arizona Fall League season.
Arizona Fall League Update
The Arizona Fall League season wrapped up Thursday. The players from the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system played for the Glendale Desert Dogs. These players joined other minor league players from the Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. The Pitchers from the Pirates organization on the roster were LHP Steven Brault from the Altoona Curve, LHP Cody Dickson from the Bradenton Marauders, RHP Tyler Eppler from the Altoona Curve and RHP Brett McKinney of the Altoona Curve. The only catcher from the Pirates organization was Reese McGuire from the Bradenton Marauders. The only outfielder was Austin Meadows. Meadows spent time with the Bradenton Maruaders and the Altoona Curve this past season. RHP Trevor Williams was recently acquired by the Pirates via trade and played as well. Adam Frazier of the Altoona Curve started the season with the Desert Dogs but left to join Team USA.
Just a few notable Pirates from the Arizona Fall League so far:
C Reese McGuire wrapped up the season by playing in fourteen games. He had fifty-one at bats and hit .294. He collected fifteen hits, four were doubles and one was a triple, six RBIs, seven walks and seven strikeouts.
OF Austin Meadows left the Arizona Fall League early to be with his grandfather. He played in sixteen games and hit just .169. He had two doubles, two triples, a home run, eleven RBIs, two walks and struckout twelve times. He also had three stolen bases.
LHP Steven Brault started five games this season. He finished with a 4.91 ERA in 14.2 innings. He struck out a total of sixteen batters while walking just five. He gave up thirteen hits total. In his last two outings of the season, he struck out seven batters in six innings.
LHP Cody Dickson had nine appearances and finished with a 7.27 ERA. Dickson appeared in 8.2 innings and struck out five, walked eight and allowed nine hits. Dickson finished with a 2-1 record.
RHP Tyler Eppler made one start and had seven relief appearances. He finished the season with a 7.56 ERA and a 1-1 record. In 16.2 innings of work, he gave up twenty-four hits, fourteen runs, three walks and five strikeouts.
RHP Brett McKinney made nine relief appearances and finished with a 0-1 record and 6.23 ERA. In 8.2 innings of work, he allowed thirteen hits, eight runs, four walks and eight strikeouts.
RHP Trevor Williams recently joined Rum Bunter Radio as a special guest. He made six appearances since being traded to the Pirates. He made six appearances and finished with a 1.23 ERA. He appeared in 7.1 innings and allowed five hits, one run and struck out five.
INF Adam Frazier played in seven games prior to leaving to play for Team USA. He was hitting .321 with six hits, a double and three triples, four RBIs, four walks and five strikeouts. He also had two stolen bases. Fraizier has had twenty four at bats for Team USA and has a .333 average. He had eight hits, four doubles and a triple, and four RBIs. He has struck out five times and walkes once.
