Pittsburgh Pirates Transactions: May 15-21

Read on for an overview of the past week’s transactions in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization:
Congratulations to Starling Marte on the birth of his daughter this past week! Because of this, Marte spent 3 days on the paternity list and the corresponding roster moves helped make this a busy week, with a lot of players going back and forth between Indianapolis and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
May 15 – The Pirates activated Left Handed Relief Pitcher Cory Luebke from the Disabled List and added him to the active roster. Luebke has been on the Disabled List since April 14 due to a Right Hamstring injury.
May 15 – The Pirates optioned Right Handed Relief Pitcher A.J. Schugel to Indianapolis (AAA). This move was made to make room for Cory Luebke on the Active Roster after he was removed from the Disabled List.
May 16 – The Pirates placed Left Fielder Starling Marte on the paternity list to attend the birth of his daughter.
May 16 – The Pirates recalled Shortstop Alen Hanson from Indianapolis (AAA). Hanson took Marte’s spot on the active roster while he was on paternity leave.
May 16 – Shortstop Juan Diaz is assigned to Indianapolis (AAA)
May 17 – Right Handed Relief Pitcher John Kuchno is assigned to Extended Spring Training from Indianapolis (AAA).
May 19 – The Pirates transferred Catcher Elias Diaz from the 15-Day Disabled List to the 60-Day Disabled List. Diaz was removed from the 40 man roster as part of this transfer
May 19 – The Pirates activated Left Fielder Starling Marte from the paternity list.
May 19 – The Pirates optioned Shortstop Alen Hanson to Indianapolis (AAA). This move was made in conjunction with Starling Marte being activated from the paternity list
May 19 – The Pirates selected the contract of Right Handed Relief Pitcher Wilfredo Boscan from Indianapolis (AAA) and added him to the active roster.
May 19 – The Pirates optioned Left Handed Relief Pitcher Cory Luebke to Indianapolis (AAA). This move was made in conjunction with Wilfredo Boscan being added to the active roster.

Over the next few weeks we could start to see even more roster moves. The Pittsburgh Pirates could start to bring up some pitching from the AAA level. Also, the Pittsburgh Pirates could start o promote some of the top prospects to the next level in the minors. Prospects like Kevin Newman and Jt Brubaker are performing well at their current levels and deserve promotions. Look for these types of moves to start happening as we enter June.
