Pittsburgh Pirates Transactions: May 29 – June 4

Read on for an overview of the past week’s transactions in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization:

Once again, there was a great deal of movement between the bullpen’s of Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.

June 3 – Right-handed pitcher David Whitehead is assigned to GCL Pirates (Rookie) from Altoona (AA). Whitehead, who had come to the Pittsburgh Pirates during the offseason in the Charlie Morton trade with the Philadelphia Phillies, had a 6.28 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP through 43 innings pitched over 10 starts with Altoona.

June 3 – Right-handed pitcher Justin Masterson is assigned to Indianapolis (AAA) from Extended Spring Training. Masterson is a player that could prove to be a shot in the arm to the Pittsburgh Pirates rotation or bullpen down the road.

June 3 – Right-handed pitcher Frank Duncan is assigned to Altoona (AA) from Indianapolis (AAA).

June 3 – The Pirates assign Right Handed Relief Pitcher Arquimedes Caminero to Indianapolis (AAA) for a rehab assignment. Caminero had been placed on the 15-Day Disabled List on May 25.

June 4 – Right Handed Pitcher Relief Pitcher Guido Knudson is assigned to Indianapolis (AAA) from Extended Spring Training.

June 4 – Right Handed Relief Pitcher Ryan Vogelsong is transferred from the 15-Day Disabled List to the 60-Day Disabled List. This move removes him from the 40 man roster.

June 4 – The  Pittsburgh Pirates optioned right-handed relief pitcher Rob Scahill to Indianapolis (AAA).

June 4 – The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned right-handed relief pitcher Wilfredo Boscan to Indianapolis (AAA).

June 4 – The Pittsburgh Pirates selected the contract of right-handed relief pitcher Curtis Partch from Indianapolis (AAA). Partch takes the spot on the 40 man roster that was recently opened up with Ryan Vogelsong being transferred to the 60-day disabled list and was added in conjunction with Scahill and Boscan being optioned to Indianapolis.

June 4 – The Pittsburgh Pirates recall left-handed relief pitcher Cory Luebke from Indianapolis (AAA). This move was made in conjunction with Scahill and Boscan being optioned to Indianapolis.
