Adolis Garcia
The Texas Rangers could look to retool and sell off some of their short-term players. One that could get moved closer to the trade deadline is outfielder Adolis Garcia. A two-time All-Star, Garcia looked on the way to establishing himself as one of baseball’s top outfielders after he hit 39 home runs with a 126 wRC+ in 2023, capping it all off with an outstanding postseason run and ring. However, playing through injuries saw his production at the plate dip, posting just a .684 OPS, .296 wOBA, and 92 wRC+ in the follow-up campaign.
2025 hasn’t started off as a great year for Garcia. He only batted .225/.284/.387 with a .289 wOBA, and 84 wRC+ through his first 157 plate appearances. With a 5.1% walk rate, he is currently on pace to tie for a career low mark. However, his 22.9% K% would be the first time he struck out in less than a quarter of his plate appearances.
While Garcia’s bottom line isn’t good, there are many reasons to believe he will have a better year than last year. For one, his xwOBA is .347, with a 50-point gap between that and his wOBA. His xSLG% sits at .493, a difference of nearly 100 points. His exit velocity is back to his pre-2024 standards at 92.1 MPH. Garcia’s barrel rate has risen from 12.1% in 2024 to 14.5%. His hitting peripherals aren’t the only numbers he’s seen a rebound in. His whiff rate of 30.1%, while still only in the 17th percentile, would be a career-low mark.
Garcia has also looked a lot better in the field. Last season, he had -5 defensive runs saved and -12 outs above average. So far this season, Garcia already has +6 defensive runs saved and +2 outs above average. He’s already matched the second-highest DRS and OAA marks of his career, but in less than 500 innings in the outfield. Garcia has always had a strong outfield arm and is in the 91st percentile of arm strength.
Garcia is controlled through 2026 as well, meaning he’s not a one-year rental. With solid numbers under the hood and a strong resume of past performance, Garcia would be a power hitter the Pirates can slot into an outfield corner for the next two years. He’s a consistent 25-home run threat with solid outfield defense when healthy.
