Pirates Charities Golf Classic today

After all the baseball nonsense is over today, many players, coaches, and staff will head out to the links.  (God I’m jealous! Come on Spring)  The Pirates host their 2nd Annual Golf Tournament today at River Wilderness Golf and Country Club.  The golf course, designed by Ted McAnlis, is situated on 150 acres of pristine landscape and is a part of the Georgia Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System which blends the property’s natural beauty with an abundance of wildlife.  45 tees on the driving range, par 72 and 7139 yards from the tips today gentlemen.  Now that sounds like a great afternoon.

In recognition of the Pirates 40th anniversary in Bradenton and the ballclub’s increased philanthropic efforts throughout the organization, Pirates Charities hosted their inaugural Golf Classic in Bradenton last year.  The tournament was held at the River Strand Golf & Country Club. The event was held to raise money toward the purchase of a special Pirates-themed used school bus for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County. The Classic netted $19,000 for the cause.

Pirates celebrities expected to participate in the tournament include a jet lagged President Frank Coonelly, GM Neal Huntington, players Tom Gorzelanny, Paul Maholm, Matt Capps, John Grabow, Jack Wilson, Sean Burnett, Adam LaRoche,  and Neal Walker; Pirates alumni Kent Tekulve, Bill Mazeroski, Manny Sanguillen and Steve Blass; and Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown.

The inside money is on Adam LaRoche and my man Greg Brown.  God what I wouldn’t give to be able to tee it up today.  Hit it straight gents!
