Fashion Police Ticket Pirates

Some good, bad, and ugly from the Pirates loss at the hands of the Rays tonight…

**Breaking the lucky hats out a night early proved a costly mistake.  The PBC looked like a different team than the one that has ten wins.  Tonight’s performance was tough to watch as the offense stranded 12 baserunners and the pitching staff allowed eleven walks.

**The Pirates have a rather antique fan base that it is not great for cameras. Just when I was ready to look away as the camera man panned the crowd for what seemed like the tenth time about halfway through the game… the Parrot grabbed a hot brunette with his left wing and in his right was a piece of paper making Bob Walk ask “is that a phone number?”

**”Jose Tabata has been maybe the best,” Joe Kerrigan speaking about the ‘top prospect’ with the cannon arm. “He shows no panic he is calm and quiet.”

*Bob Walk is a funny guy.

**Tim Neverett/the new Bob Uecker (sounds like him doesn’t he?) let’s him be funny too.   One of my favorite Uecker spring training quotes…“The highlight of my career? In ’67 with St. Louis, I walked with the bases loaded to drive in the winning run in an intersquad game in spring training.”Source: Widely Attributed

**Brief appearance of the blaze orange shorts of a Hooters server in bottom of eighth.

**Paul Maholm makes me wish we had two more like him. Kerrigan said, “He is a pitching coach’s dream. His side work execution carries over to game.”

**Neil Huntington comparing Garrett Jones ( 6’4″ 245 pounds, 412AVG) to an NFL tight end. He then almost beats out a swinging bunt hit ten feet in front of the catcher.  And in ninth Jones drills an RBI single, he now has eight.

**The adrenaline rush these players must have trying to make this team gets me going a little bit.  I mean I didn’t get off the couch or anything, but I must say it is exciting.

**Backup catcher Robinzon Diaz can hit.  Two more hits including his third double.  ..444AVG

**After Kerrigan does a great dugout interview, David Davisdon (16.20ERA) and Brian Slocum (12.00 ERA) make us throw up in our mouth including this sequence.  Slocum, wearing the famous no 66, served Pat “the Bat” Burrell a low, down and in fastball that was clubbed almost onto the street in front of the ball park.  Promptly, Ryan Doumit came out to the mound. Slocum talked into his glove as Doumit shook his head. Doumit returns behind the plate.  Then Slocum threw a breakin ball in the dirt and walked in a run. Just about this time my wife says,  “heh that coach what’s his name Gerrigan?  It’s Kerrigan honey…Yeh, whatever, he looks like a 70s porn star almost like William H Macey in Boogie Nights.”

**Twelve men left on base.

**Evan Meek.  “He’s got no fear. 95mph. ”  All in one sentence.  Maybe two sentences, I was excited.  Wow that sounds good.

**Bob Walk provides the following insight which is a reason I enjoy listening to him.  He makes me smarter.  Not many announcers do that anymore.  “Tony Beasley is working on the pitchers hitting. I have never seen that in my entire career, on ANY team I’ve been on. You start trying to teach theories behind hitting to our pitchers.  It’s great. If the pitchers are really smart  it will help their pitching. If the hitter is trying to do this then what can I do to counteract that? I love what Beasley is doing.”  Me too Bob. Me too.
