Pirates Take it Deep in 8-2 Win Over Twins

The Pirates were victorious over the Twins 8-2 last night behind homers from Andrew McCutchen, and the LaRoche BrothersIan Snell improved to 2-7 after a Jekyll and Hyde performance on the mound.

McCutchen is living up to the billing of a future star.  He is now hitting .339 with nine RBI.  He crushed a Francisco Liranio 2-2 fastball into centerfield for his first home run in the majors.

Snell seemed to find his stuff after Joe Kerrigan visited the mound in the third inning.  Kerrigan came out after Snell had thrown over 30 pitches in the inning.  Snell went on to work six innings.  He threw 69 pitches through three innings, 111 on the night.

When will Snell learn to trust Kerrigan?

After throwing 41 pitches in the third inning, Snell fired 15 in the fourth, 11 in the fifth and 16 in his last inning of work.  On the night he relied on his four seam fastball which he threw 67 times, hitting 94 mph and averaging 92.  His slider averaged 84mph and his changeup 83mph.

Snell claimed he was getting squeezed by Umpire Barksdale and didn’t get the calls.   Snell has typically blamed things on others this season.  Perhaps he has an argument according to Brooks Baseball.  Look at the chart and make your decision  [BB]
