Pirates Set to Hand Ninth Straight Loss to Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers head into PNC

with a little less swagger tonight.  The Pittsburgh Pirates will be looking for the third straight victory over the Beer makers.   Fans are calling for Pittsburgh boy Ken Macha’s head after the Brewers clutched defeat from the jaws of victory by letting Trevor Hoffman take the mound last night.  I guess beer doesn’t cure everything after all.

The Bucs have won three games in the past nine, but none was bigger than last night against Roy Halladay. Or as we call him Hallady.  Wow.  The team pulled off a tough test.  Tonight shouldn’t be even close to being that tough on paper.

However……33-year-old Randy Wolf is on the mound.  He has been dominant against the Buccos.  He is 1-0 in two starts versus them this year.

The Pirates watched as he fired six shutout innings in a victory at Pittsburgh on April 22.  Cy Young like.

Then less than a week later he gave up just two runs in eight innings.

But tonight he comes in after getting thumped by those Phillies his last time out.  He gave up a season-high six runs on seven hits over just five innings.  His 4.66 ERA is in large part attributed to the pathetic performances by the Pirates offense in his 14 innings of two run work.  .

Brian Burres will go out just trying to keep on beign steady.  29-year-old Burres has been fun to watch as he has a 4.87 ERA in his four starts.

He has pitched against the Brewers in relief this season.  On April 20, he went four innings and gave up runs on three hits.
