Pirates GM Neal Huntington Talks Pitching Prospects, Rudy Owens Promotion

Pittsburgh Pirates GM Neal Huntington was in Altoona to look at the Fantastic Four.   The excellent reporting of Cory Giger at the Mirror has some nice comments today on the Curve pitching prospects.   He breaks down each, but I was especially interested in Jeff Locke.

"“Jeff was one of the three big pieces [of the trade]. Everybody wants to point to who was the most important piece. Really, they all three were — with Gorkys [Hernandez] and Charlie [Morton].  Jeff obviously is having the best year of the three … and just keeps getting better. He’s a left-handed pitcher with a quality mix of pitches. He can get groundballs, he can strike some guys out. He continues to come on.”—Neal Huntingon in the Altoona Mirror"

Be sure to stop over and check it out, if for no other reason than to hear the tough talk on Danny Moskos.   I believe it’s one of the best articles of the year.  Huntington speaks openly, ala mid-2009, which is a compliment to the nice work Cory did on the article, especially the question about Rudy Owens moving up the ladder.
