Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training Day Three Notes
By Tom Smith
The Pittsburgh Pirates
took the fields for a 30-minute stretch/warm-up and throwing program, beginning at 10:00.
The following 15 pitchers threw 40-45 pitches during a bullpen session:
Paul Maholm, Jose Veras, Joel Hanrahan, Kevin Correia, Justin Wilson, Aaron Thompson, Joe Beimel, James McDonald, Scott Olsen, Ross Ohlendorf, Evan Meek, Jeff Locke, Kyle McPherson, Mike Crotta, Rudy Owens.
All pitchers participated in fielding practice and slug bunting drills.
A total of 16 position players participated in defensive work for 25 minutes with various coaches/instructors and then took batting practice from 11:00 to 11:55.
Twitter Update:
Hanrahan sent a tweet saying that Tony Sanchez hit him with a ball and joked that he will request to face Sanchez in BP.
Paul Maholm mentioned he shot a 78 at Canebrake Golf Club.
All but five players (pitcher Jose Ascanio, infielders Ronny Cedeno and Brian Friday, outfielders John Bowker and Alex Presley) are in camp. Ascanio is having visa problems, not sure if the corners aren’t crips or what the deal with that is.
The word is those five players are all expected in camp prior to Saturday’s first full squad workout.
