Pirates Report captured the reporters questions of the day. It sounds like he was the man who asked the lineup question which lead us to the discussion of Andrew McCutchen in the three hole.  We don’t think that’s a great idea this year.  Mainly because who bats first then?  Tabata?  Take a look at his OBP.  It’s not smart.    Bat the league’s best leadoff hitter in the one hole.  Get him the most possible plate appearances.
Also on the video is Hurdle talking slug bunting by pitchers, and being agressive by using speed and variety.

An “older” Joe Beimel breaks down what he is looking forward to as a Pittsburgh Pirate:

Draft:

You probably heard Buster Olney say that Rice junior Anthony Rendon will be in the majors within a year of the draft.  The buzz around the Bucs landing the top pick is exciting for Pirates fans.  That’s the great news.  The not so great part is the number of picks, so many teams loaded up because they knew this draft was going to be…. loaded.  It will be very interesting to look back on this draft in a few years.

Keith Law’s Top 50 players is out.  The link is below, check it out.  Anthony Rendon is on top.  No surprise.  George Springer (OF/UConn) and Gerrit Cole complete the top three.  But look at the depth.  UC Davis righty Scott Lyman is 93-95 mph with a big hammer curve and Law has him way down at number 47.  Hell, look at 48, the high school arm is 96mph.  Damn I wish the Pirates had some more picks this year.

For those of you that aren’t sold on Rendon, how about this….

Happy as a Frog. Matt Purke had a 3.02 ERA which was good for second among NCAA starters. He struckout 142 batters in 116.1 innings and walked 34. He’s not very happy with those numbers, and oh yeh, he was undeafeted on the mound. The left hander has a deceptive delivery, and obviously he has been very impressive for Texas Christian University. The unique delivery has helped Purke develop a mid-90’s fastball with sink and a couple nice breaking pitches.

Media Bistro had this to say about the plan:

"However, Twitter isn’t abandoning Promoted Tweets – instead, it will be rolling them out into users’ regular timelines in the next month or so. This means that Twitter.com users will see Promoted Tweets in their home timeline rather than only in search results or on third-party platforms like HootSuite as it stands currently.Introducing more ads on Twitter will likely annoy users, but the presentation addresses this issue as well, saying that users will get used to the idea over time, and that those who are most opposed will be the minority. The presentation also informs potential advertisers that while the click-through rate on Promoted Tweets are about 0.3%, the engagement rate – when a user retweets, favorites, or otherwise engages with a tweet – is much higher, at about 1% – 3%."
