Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training News: Pedro Alvarez Becomes Mere Mortal

The Pirates
started the day with a meeting with Chairman of the Board Bob Nutting for 15 minutes prior to the workout.
The big news was that Pedro Alvarez is not super human. Alvarez missed the workout today due to a muscle spasm in his neck. His status is “day to day.”
The Pirates pitchers were given the day off from throwing a bullpen session or to hitters. In separate groups, they participated in bunting drills, and a light throwing program.
Position players took part in early work from 8:30 to 9:30.
Position players also participated in base running drills and a throwing program before taking part in the daily team fundamental (cutoffs and relays).
After individual defensive drills, the players took BP off various coaches, conditioned and were off the fields by 12:45.
All players and Major League staff members had a 45-minute meeting with umpire supervisors Charlie Reliford and Larry Young to discuss umpiring and on field spring training operations. (The players and staff will never get this part of their life back.)
