Pirates Caffeine: Its Scott Olsen Time

Scott Olsen

will get some action today as he attempts to be the comeback kid in a quest for the fifth starters spot in the Pittsburgh Pirates rotation.   When asked about a spot in the bullpen Olsen said:

"“I don’t really have much of a choice.  I’m open for whatever.”  Scott Olsen"

The Pirates are taking a look at some of the bubble boys today.  Pedro Ciriaco gets the leadoff spot, he really showed off his arm yesterday playing third base for four innings.  John Bowker is in the lineup again and looking to stay hot.  Steve Pearce walked yesterday, his second of the spring to go with a pile of strikeouts.

Joe Beimel is also scheduled to pitch for the first time in game action today.

Here is our first post from Fab Five Week. We are looking at storylines of the 2011 season and will include Spring Training Videos and photos for you. Pedro Alvarez leads it off.

Lastings Milledge is playing mostly in centerfield?  And doing it well?

‘Love of the game is what’s kept Milledge going. And from the looks of things midway through camp, that love might push him all the way onto the Opening Day roster.’

Speaking of Chicago, Cubs number one starter Ryan Dempster looks ready to take the mound against the Bucs on Opening Day.  Dempster shut out the Chicago White Sox for five innings on Friday.

He threw 39 of 64 pitches for strikes and allowed only two hits while striking out six.  He did walk one and hit a White Sox batter.

I find this hilarious.
