Two Pirates Longshots in ABL All-Star Game

The Australian Baseball League

will hold their inaugural ABL All-Star Game this Wednesday. The game will be televised on MLB Network. Information on the game from the ABL site states that as many as ten current and former Major League players will be showing off their talent in the game.

The game will pit Australia’s National Baseball Team against players from the US, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, India and Italy. Two Pirates players have made the World Roster.

2009 18th rounder Ryan Beckman continues to put up impressive results with his relatively new arm slot for the Bite.  The 6’4″ Joe Dirt look-alike, has five saves to go with 16 strikeouts in as many innings.  We think Beckman has a strong shot to be in the Altoona bullpen this year as he continues to put up some nice K/9 numbers.   The bad guys are hitting just .207 off Beckman in 16.1 innings pitched.

Soft tossing reality show winner Rinku Singh is an incredible story and he keeps impressing after playing in the DSL, GSL, and two levels of A ball this season.  Singh has pitched well in six games holding the bad guys to a paltry .175 average with 10 punchouts and one walk thanks to impressive breaking arsenal.

If you are in Australia for the game, I envy you.  If you are like the rest of us, grab some Foster’s oil cans, turn on the MLB Network, and watch two Pirates longshots take on the Aussies.
