Pittsburgh Pirates Beat Writer Rob Biertempfel Connects The Dots on Clint Hurdle Comment

We heard Clint Hurdle talking about players having ‘some General Manager in them.’  We weren’t really sure what it meant at the time, and with the bliss of winning surrounding us, frankly, we didn’t think much about it.  But then we saw this from Rob Biertempfel today which rounded it all up and put a bow on it.

In the article, Biertempfel said he spoke with several players in the locker room and concluded this.

"There’s a feeling among some of the holdover Pirates players that, with a postseason berth within reach this season, management did not step up and get them some help for the here and now."

The Pirates clubhouse are a competitive bunch.  We can’t fault the ‘holdover players,’ which isn’t really to hard to figure out, for wanting to reach heights that nobody thought they could reach.  Read all the ‘sexy snatching’ stuff here, it’s interesting.

All right people, we got 10 minutes ‘till game time, let’s all gather ‘round.

I’m not much for giving inspirational addresses, but I’d just like to point out that every newspaper in the country has picked us to finish last. The local press seems to think that we’d save everyone the time and trouble if we just went out and shot ourselves.

Me, I’m for wasting sportswriters’ time. So I figured we ought to hang around for a while and see if we can give ’em all a nice big shitburger to eat!
