Pittsburgh Sports Forum: Pirates Will Be Getting A New Logo In 2014
Some interesting news about the Pittsburgh Pirates developing a new logo for the 2014 season was released today by Kipper of Pittsburgh Sports Forum. Go check it out here.
Kipper spoke with Pittsburgh Pirates President Frank Coonelly at PirateFest who informed him of the news.
Yes, there’s going to be a new jolly Roger logo in 2014. It takes 14 months for the submission process to go through and we are on track for a new jolly roger logo for 2014″
For years the Pirates have messed around with various degrees of yellow and black, and yes, even sometimes red in the jerseys. In case you have burned this image from your memory let me bring it back for you. Along with Al Martin…ahh, what a running back he was at USC.
The team was in love with red at one time. So much red was in this vest that Leatherface would blush:
Sorry about those flashbacks, but you get the message. There is no guarantee this will be an improvement over the last Jolly Roger, but it’s at least a change.
The Pirates use nearly every other season to turn back the clock to the glory days of yesteryear when they pull out the uni’s of past championship teams. It’s always a good time and is chronicled well here by uniwatch a few years back.
The Pirates franchise loves looking backward. In that vein, perhaps this logo from the early 1960’s will be an inspiration for Bob Nutting’s new logo. God help us.
